David Kimberley

David Kimberley received a B.S. in Commerce from The University of Alabama in 1982, and his J.D from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1985. He had a civil litigation practice for 21 years before being elected in 2006 as a circuit judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit. David served as a circuit judge from 2007 to 2019. From 2017-2019, he was the 16th Circuit’s presiding judge.

David served with the United States Naval Reserves from 1997-2005, the Alabama Sentencing Standards Committee (2010-2019), the Alabama Pattern Jury Instruction Committee (Criminal) from 2013-2019, and the Circuit and District Judges’ Education Planning Committee (2014-2019). He also was First Vice-Chair of the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission (2015-2019). Since 2016, David has been a faculty member of the National Judicial College.

David was appointed to the Council of the Alabama Law Institute while a circuit judge. He has been an attorney for the Alabama Law Institute Division of the Legislative Services Agency since January of 2019, becoming its Deputy Director in November of 2020.

David is married to the former Cindy Allen of Glencoe. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.
