Othni Lathram

Othni J. Lathram is the director of the Legislative Services Agency. Othni previously served as the director of Alabama Law Institute, Interim Legislative Fiscal Officer, and Interim Director of the Legislative Reference Service. Prior to joining the Alabama Law Institute he practiced in Birmingham with a focus on complex litigation. Othni received his B.S. in Economics from Auburn University and his J.D. from the University of Alabama. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute, is a Commissioner with the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, and serves on the Alabama Supreme Court’s Standing Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure.

He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). Othni is a member of the bar in Alabama and Texas and had been admitted to practice before federal district and circuit courts around the country.

Othni is married to the former Karen Old of Birmingham and they have two children, Christopher and Anna.
